Happy 8th Birthday to Us!
It’s our eighth year being a part of this wonderful and vibrant community! We’d like to extend our thanks to everyone who has made our continued success possible. It’s been one hell of a ride!
Ten years ago, in the midst of a quarter life crisis, I took the first tiny step towards what would eventually become Janus Books. After two years of literal blood, sweat, and tears, we opened our doors on July 7th, 2012.
Now, after eight more years of hard work, Janus Books has blossomed into a fruitful and full blown mid-life crisis — not to mention a thriving local business. I look forward to becoming increasingly eccentric in the years to come.
So where are we today?
The last few months have presented the greatest challenges we have experienced in our history.
We closed our doors to the public on March 17 and have yet to re-open. However, that does not mean that we have been idle.
We launched our online store on April 7th, offering local delivery and pickup. This has been a huge success! Thank you to everyone who has supported us during this difficult time by placing an order online. We would not be here today if it wasn’t for your support.
We have been selling a great number of books online, and are very interested in bringing in new inventory to replenish our stock. We are reviewing our procedures for purchasing books, and will be making an announcement about this soon. It is important for us to be able to do this in a safe and sustainable way. For those of you who have been inquiring about selling us books — watch this space!
We are looking forward to reopening as soon as we feel it is safe to do so. Our first priority is the safety of our customers, staff and community, followed closely by the continued long term success of the business.
We have been using this time to make improvements to the store itself. We have installed a protective shield at the counter and generally made the store more amenable to social distancing by decluttering and rearranging.
We’ve redesigned the kids area to be more open.
Sadly, we will not be able to have our traditional “Buy 3, get the 4th free” anniversary sale this year. We hope to be able to do this in the future, but it’s simply not realistic at this time.
On behalf of the entire staff, I’d like to thank all of you who have visited the store over the years. Your hunger for knowledge continues to inspire us.
